Player Season Stats
Pedro Porro joined us from Sporting CP in January, 2023, on loan until the end of the season, with an obligation to make the deal permanent in the summer of 2023.
A versatile, flying machine down the right flank, Pedro enjoyed an impressive first full season with us in 2023/24, the perfect fit for Ange Postecoglou's system that would see him step into midfield from right-back. His prowess on the ball in attacking areas was reflected in three sweetly struck goals and seven assists in 35 starts in the Premier League.
Pedro went one better in the FA Cup, however, with a fierce, dipping piledriver from 30 yards to beat Burnley in the third round in January, 2024 - a strike that took our Official Supporters' Clubs vote for Goal of the Season.
Pedro appeared in 37 of our 41 matches in 2023/24, 35 in the Premier League and two in the FA Cup, taking his tally to 54 in all competitions. He marked his 50th appearance for us in the Premier League with a goal in our 3-0 win at Sheffield United on the final day of the campaign as we secured fifth place.
Pedro's displays earned a recall into the Spain squad for internationals in March, 2024, and he earned his third cap against Colombia, although he missed out on final selection for Euro 2024.
Born in Don Benito, Spain, Pedro began his youth career locally at Gimnástico Don Benito before moving to Rayo Vallecano in 2015 and then Girona in August, 2017, where he made his senior debut a few months later. In December, 2017, he joined CF Peralada on loan for the remainder of the campaign before returning to the Blanquivermells, where he made a total of 35 appearances in all competitions, scoring once.
Featuring twice against us in this season’s UEFA Champions League group stage, Pedro signed for Manchester City in August, 2019, but returned to Spain soon after to gain further first team experience, joining Real Valladolid on a season-long loan.
An attack-minded full-back, Pedro joined Sporting CP on a two-year loan in August, 2020 - a deal which was made permanent in July, 2022. In his first season in Lisbon, he played an integral role in helping the club secure a domestic double as Sporting claimed the Primeira Liga title for the first time in 19 years and the Portuguese League Cup (Taça da Liga), scoring the decisive goal in the final. The following season, Pedro continued his fine form and helped his side scoop a second consecutive Taça da Liga.
During his time with Sporting, the Spain international made a total of 98 appearances in all competitions, netting 12 times and, after an impressive string of performances in the 2020/21 season, he claimed the Primeira Liga’s Defender of the Month award in three consecutive months (November, 2020, to January, 2021). He later claimed the award again in September, 2021. Currently sitting top of the Primeira Liga’s assists chart, he was also named in the league’s Team of the Year in each of the last two campaigns (2020/21 and 2021/22).
Pedro played right wing-back, right-back and on the right of midfield in his 17 appearances in the second half of 2022/23, including 13 starts and three goals in the Premier League, where he was on target against Southampton, Manchester United and on the final day win at Leeds.
On the international stage, he made seven appearances for Spain’s Under-21 side before earning his senior debut in a FIFA World Cup qualifying fixture against Georgia in March, 2021. Pedro was then named in the Spain squad that finished as runners-up in the 2021 UEFA Nations League. At the end of 2023/24, Pedro had three caps to his name.
