A central midfielder born in Barnet, Matthew Craig was a county cup winner and 1,500m district champion while attending Dame Alice Owen's School in Potters Bar.
Having previously played for Watford, Matthew, who can also play at centre-half or at full-back, joined us at Under-12 level.
He appeared three times for our Under-18s in 2018/19, then played nine games at that level in 2019/20.
The following season, he was a consistent member of our Under-18s team, featuring 23 times in all competitions before stepping up to play regularly for our Development Squad in 2021/22, making 20 appearances.
In August, 2021, he made history along with his brother Michael as the first ever identical twins to appear in a men’s first team matchday squad for us when the pair were named on a youthful substitutes’ bench for our UEFA Europa Conference League play-off, first leg against at Paços de Ferreira in Portugal.
Matthew was also named as a substitute in the group stage of that competition away to Vitesse in October, 2021, and would make his first ever appearances in a Premier League matchday squad when he made the bench for our final five top-flight fixtures of the 2021/22 season as the Club secured a top four finish and a return to the UEFA Champions League.
He made his Premier League debut at Leeds United on the final day of the 2022/23 season before spending the second half of the 2023/24 campaign on loan at Doncaster Rovers.
In July, 2024, he joined League One side Barnsley on loan for the 2024/25 season.
On the international stage, he represents Scotland Under-21s, having previously captained his country in the younger age groups and played for them in the Victory Shield. Both of his grandfathers are Scottish, one of whom is former Notts County forward Ron Still.
