Hugo Lloris: “There is a lot to fight for”

Tue 04 April 2023, 12:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Returning skipper Hugo Lloris gave a rallying call after our 1-1 draw against Everton on Monday evening.

There was no little frustration from the visiting dressing room after Michael Keane’s late wonder strike denied us a victory that would have lifted us above Newcastle and Manchester United into third in the Premier League. As it stands, the point took us back into fourth, level on points with both Uniteds, who both have two games in hand.

Back in action at Goodison Park after missing nine matches through injury, Hugo said: “We are in a situation where we all have to feel the responsibility, players, staff, and it’s really important to keep fighting until the end of the season.

I believe the team is ready to be united until the end, which is important. We have to show this on the pitch

“We have to do it for ourselves, first, for the team, for the members of the club who work here every day and believe in us, for the fans... there are a lot of things to fight for - also, for pride.”

It’s not just ourselves, Newcastle and United in the shake up. Brighton could go ahead of us if they win their games in hand - and we face the Seagulls in a huge match at home on Saturday (3pm) - Brentford could move within four points and Liverpool could be within two with their games in hand.

“It will be difficult for every team involved, it’s the Premier League,” added Hugo. “The most important thing I believe is consistency, also, to get wins at home, and we’ve performed well in our last few home games.

“We have to feel the responsibility, as soon as we wear the shirt. All week, I felt a team committed. Unfortunately, we have a few players injured. I believe the team is ready to be united until the end, which is important. Again, we have to show this on the pitch and getting wins will help increase confidence for us to finish strong.”
