What a whirlwind first few days at Spurs for Dejan Kulusevski. Snapped up alongside Rodrigo Bentancur from Juventus on 31 January, he’s had to quickly adapt to new surroundings, new team-mates and what Antonio Conte has described as ‘a different sport’ in terms of Premier League football.
Still only 21, Dejan has already had a taste of the FA Cup and the Premier League, making his first appearances for the Club off the bench in different circumstances – a 3-1 win against Brighton in the FA Cup on Saturday, followed by a 3-2 loss against Southampton in the Premier League on Wednesday evening.
The Swedish international is adapting as quickly as possible - and wants to make his mark.
“It’s a completely different world here, and I’m loving it,” Dejan told us at Hotspur Way this week. “I love the intensity in training and in the games. I can’t wait to adapt, make a contribution and make everyone happy.
“The football… it’s crazy, really, teams can score or something important can happen at any second. You can lose games in that moment. It’s different and a very good level, very fast, the training is more intense, players are faster, it’s completely different. I have to get my physicality back so I can make a difference.”
The next chance to do that will be on Sunday, when we play our third game of the week at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, this time hosting Wolves in the Premier League (2pm).
Dejan added: “The loss against Southampton wasn’t what we needed, but sometimes it happens in football. You’ve just got to come back stronger, help each other and hopefully win our next game on Sunday. We want to make the top four and if we want to make it, we have to win games.”
