Bale hails “great signing” Reguilón

Gareth Bale has lavished praise on fellow new arrival Sergio Reguilón as the left-back edges closer to making his debut.

A 23-year-old Spain international, Sergio completed his move to the Club from Real Madrid last weekend, journeying across from the Bernabeu at the same time as Gareth, who has returned to us on loan from Los Blancos, some seven years after leaving for the Spanish capital.

Ineligible to feature in Thursday night’s 3-1 Europa League qualifying victory over KF Shkendija in North Macedonia, we could see the all-action full-back in action for us for the first time this week as the games continue to come thick and fast, beginning with Newcastle in the Premier League at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday (2pm UK).

Former Spurs player Terry Gibson, now a respected Spanish football TV pundit, told us on tottenhamhotspur.com how the former Sevilla loanee has been “an important player, right up there with the best left-backs in La Liga” – and it’s fair to say that Sergio’s former Real Madrid team-mate concurs.

“He’s an exciting young player,” said Gareth, who won the lot with Real and is the talisman of the Welsh national team with 85 caps to his name and the title of his country's all-time top goalscorer.

“I’ve been with him for a couple of years at Real Madrid and he did great last season for Sevilla, winning the Europa League.

“He’s an exciting young left-back, very energetic, loves attacking, great delivery. He’s a great signing, a great addition to the squad and I think everyone will enjoying watching him.”
