We might have missed out on victory in his home city of Antwerp on Thursday night, but for Toby Alderweireld, all focus is now on claiming our first league win at his – and our – home stadium in 2020/21 when Brighton come to visit on Sunday.

In contrast to a perfect record on the road in the top flight this term, we’ve only managed to pick up two points from a possible nine at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on the domestic scene, despite largely dominant performances against both Newcastle and West Ham of late.

That’s something central defender Toby wants us to put right this weekend as we take on the Seagulls in a rare Sunday evening kick-off (7.15pm UK).

We’ve got our points away from home but now we need to win at home in this game against Brighton.

“We need to get three points at home,” stated the Belgian international, who helped us to a 1-0 win at Burnley in our last Premier League game on Monday before sitting out Thursday’s Europa League loss to Royal Antwerp on the bench.

“It’s a cliché but every Premier League game is tough. We’ve got our points away from home but now we need to win at home in this game against Brighton.

“I think we’ve played well (in the previous two home league games), unfortunately we conceded a goal or we didn’t win so it’s very important to get that home winning feeling again.”

Key to achieving that would be a third clean sheet in four games.

Toby added: “Of course, as a defender, a goalkeeper, even as a team, defensively you want to have a clean sheet but not only that – it’s the way you play as well.

“We defended in a difficult away game (against Burnley) with the style of play they brought – it’s very encouraging. We need to work from that, still improve and hopefully get a clean sheet on Sunday.”
