Mindset important against City, says Kane

Harry Kane believes “confidence is key” ahead of Saturday’s clash with Manchester City.

We return to action after the international break with a home match against one of the juggernauts of the Premier League, whose manager Pep Guardiola on Thursday signed a new two-year deal at the Etihad.

We’ve had to grind out hard-fought wins against Burnley, Brighton and West Brom in our last three top-flight fixtures, but Harry wants us to ensure we take our performance to even greater levels as we seek a repeat of the memorable 2-0 triumph we enjoyed over City at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last season.

We just have to go into the game with the mindset that we have a game plan and we stick to that, we work hard for each other, work hard as a team.

Harry Kane

Speaking exclusively in our official matchday programme ahead of Saturday’s 5.30pm kick-off, the England captain explained: “The last three games have been tough, but good battles to come through. We know we have things to improve on, but we have to just keep going and moving in the right direction. Confidence is key for us, but I think a bit of humility as well – knowing there is a long way to go in this season still and that we don’t get too carried away.”

Of course, Harry is alluding to the fact that we head into the weekend sitting second in the table, having remained unbeaten in the top flight since the opening-day home defeat to Everton.

On Saturday’s opponents, he added: “Obviously Manchester City are a fantastic team and have been one of the best sides in Europe in recent history. We know it’s going to be a very tough game, but we also know that on our day, we can beat anyone. We just have to go into the game with the mindset that we have a game plan and we stick to that, we work hard for each other, work hard as a team and then, of course, we can get a result.”
