Eric Dier: “This puts everything into perspective”

Eric Dier has experienced a few bumps in the road over the last 18 months – but says the coronavirus has put everything into perspective.
Go back to December, 2018, and the England international was hit with a bout of appendicitis, with subsequent injury and illness keeping him out until April last year.
He was laid low again by illness in pre-season but he’s recovered to make 28 appearances in all competitions so far this term, and had switched to his favoured centre-back role in recent matches – when COVID-19 struck us all.
The professional game in England has been postponed until no earlier than 30 April and as we wait for further developments, Eric is following Club guidelines on staying fit and government messaging on tackling COVID-19 – stay at home, protect the NHS, save lives.
“Of course, I miss the game, miss the lads, but this is a very upsetting situation for everyone,” he told us on Friday. “I thought I was in a good place at the time. It’s crazy really. It’s been up and down, up and down, but this puts it all into perspective. It’s just about everyone’s health.”
Eric, who joined the UK in paying tribute to the NHS and #ClapForOurCarers on Thursday night, is working hard at home, like his team-mates.
He added: “I’ve been training every day. I’ve a little gym and I’ve brought a few things in since we’ve been on shut down.
“I’ve also got a teqball table, which is great fun. I’m running every day, so running, gym, and the coaches and staff at the Club are all in touch, so everyone is keeping their fitness ticking over.”
👏 Thank you, @NHS 💙
