Supporting Darby Rimmer’s 'March of the Day II'

Fri 21 March 2025, 15:30|Tottenham Hotspur

Club Ambassador Ledley King met with participants of a charitable walk at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium today in order to raise awareness and help find a cure for Motor Neurone Disease (MND).

'March of the Day II' is organised by the Darby Rimmer MND Foundation, which was founded in 2019 by former Liverpool, Bradford City and Bolton Wanderers footballer Stephen Darby and his friend, and British Forces Veteran, Chris Rimmer after the pair were diagnosed with MND.

Very sadly, Chris passed away in 2022, but the charity continues to fund and assist research into the illness with the quest of finding a cure, as well as offering emotional support networks for those diagnosed.

The three-day walk takes on a 178-mile journey from Wembley to Ipswich Town, stopping off at 26 other football grounds along the way, including Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and features a number of former professional players.

Our own former captain met with participants during their stop-off at the Stadium and presented them with a signed shirt on behalf of the Club.

Ledley said: “It was a pleasure to meet up with the participants of today’s walk and have the opportunity to host them at our Stadium. We are a Club that cares deeply, and we recognise the importance of supporting charitable causes led by representatives of our wider football family.”

Stephen Darby, co-founder of the Darby Rimmer MND Foundation, said: “March of the Day has received a huge amount of support. It has brought together people, fans and football clubs and ex-football players and managers who are all supporting the Foundation and the MND community.

“When those who are diagnosed with MND see people showing their support through events like this one, it gives us the strength to keep fighting daily. Together we can make a positive impact on MND and hopefully one day we will see a cure for this disease.”

In August 2023, a group of lifelong Spurs fans, with the support of the Club, took on a fundraising challenge in the Stadium to raise money for research into the causes of MND.

Through our own charitable Foundation, the Club is dedicated to providing life-changing opportunities through sport for some of society’s most vulnerable groups. All profits from Sunday’s Legends match against AC Milan, in which Ledley King will be playing, will be donated to support the Foundation’s vital work in our community.
