While Eveliina Summanen was visibly disappointed with the result at Chigwell Construction Stadium on Sunday, she couldn’t fault the work rate from her team-mates in our performance.

Having looked bright in the opening stages of the game, it was the hosts who opened the scoring in the 16th-minute after Josefine Rybrink turned Verena Hanshaw’s low effort into her own net.

That didn’t dampen our spirit as we came inches away from finding a leveller on numerous occasions in Dagenham, Eveliina striking the crossbar with a free-kick in the first half followed by Martha Thomas firing her effort against the post, but we just couldn't find a way through.

However, as we pushed forward, the hosts capitalised at the other end in the final minute of normal time as Viviane Asseyi grabbed the second goal of the game, extending our run without a win to six games in all competitions.

I think we played very well, it’s about being in the final third and that final pass, wanting to score a goal, I think that’s what we need at the moment.

“Disappointment, we obviously came here to win,” she told us, reflecting on a difficult afternoon in Dagenham. “I mean, the second goal is what it is, we wanted to put more bodies forward, but it’s a massive disappointment.

“I think we played very well, it’s about being in the final third and that final pass, wanting to score a goal, I think that’s what we need at the moment.

“We need a goal to have that flow in our favour and then we hopefully don’t get those unlucky goals against us.

“It’s small margins, I wish that free kick goes in and then it’s a different situation for us and we get a little boost from that.”

Next up is a trip to Leicester City on Sunday (2pm UK) in our final game before the international break and the midfielder feels there were parts of the performance to take from the clash with West Ham into next weekend’s encounter at King Power Stadium.

“We need to keep on fighting,” she added. “We showed fight again, like I said, it was just small margins but we just need the want to win, to score and to work hard for each other.

“We can take the bravery as we wanted to play, even though the conditions are not the easiest, we still tried to play our way and we worked really hard again.

“I think those are the two things we can always take forward with us and focus on Leicester, how we can score and get that positive winning feeling back.”
