Appearing first and exclusively in this season’s official matchday programme, we get to know our Women Under-21s players.

Taking on the Q&A this time is Ruby Mace, who has been at the Club for a number of years in the Academy set-up, progressing to the Under-21s group for the first time this season.

Following a lengthy spell on the sidelines during the first half of the campaign, the energetic midfielder returned to action at the turn of the year and has featured numerous occasions in the Professional Game Academy League.

We sat down with the youngster to find out a little more about her…

First started training with Spurs?

“I started training with the Club when I was 14 years old, so it was in 2021. I joined from my grassroots club Buckhurst Hill FC.”

Favourite food?

“I would have to go with my stepmom’s fajitas, they’re very favourable.”

Any pets?

“I don’t have any but I really want to get a dog and specifically a Border Terrier – that’s my favourite dog.”

Favourite memory as a football fan?

“It has got to be last season’s FA Cup semi-final win over Leicester City at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. I went to watch it with the Under-16s and it was a really good experience.”

Any hidden talents?

“I’m quite good at boxing. I have never done it at a serious level but my mum’s best friends all had sons, so we use to go to a club when we were younger and do boxing.”

Who do you like to watch in the first team and why?

“Drew Spence because I think she’s really good at anticipating play and how she reads the game. Also, Kit Graham as I think she controls the midfield well and, in terms of her injury, she has been an inspiration for me with her mentality."

Who was your footballing idol when growing up?

“Andrea Pirlo. My dad used to make me watch him to analyse how he plays, so I just started to really like him, watching his highlights on YouTube.”

If you couldn’t be a footballer, what would you like to be instead?

“I would definitely love to be a coach within the academy set-up.”

How would you sum up your character?

“I would say I’m  quite bubbly and approachable but also, in a training environment, I would drive the standards on the pitch.”

How would you describe your playing style?

“My best attributes are my vision of pass and just running for days, but also controlling the midfield and dictating the game.”
