A-Z with

Lize Kop

Our A-Z feature will appear first & exclusively in this season’s official matchday programme and next up is Lize Kop...

The Netherlands international completed a move to north London in January, joining us from Leicester City, and has since made five in the Barclays Women's Super League for us.

We posed our new shot stopper with some quickfire questions to get to know her a little better, from her favourite subject in school to competing in another sport when she was younger...

Ability – Define your best attributes as a player?

“I would say my passing is one of them and my communication on the pitch.”

Best friend– Who is your best friend in football?

“I had some good friends at Leicester, Julie Thibaud is someone I hang out a lot with and also the two Belgium internationals – Janice Cayman and Sari Kees.”

Cinema – What is the best film you have watched?

“I can’t think of a specific film I love, but I use to watch ‘The Holiday’ a lot, so I will go with that one.”

Debut – When did you make your debut and where?

“I made my senior debut for Ajax back in September, 2017, against Achilles ‘29. I was around 18 years old.”

“It would have to be my friends from the Netherlands and, of course, my family.”

Fanatic – What is your favourite memory in football?

“The Women’s Euros in 2017 where I went to watch the Netherlands national team, I just loved that tournament. My favourite memory in football would have to be winning the double with Ajax and my move to Spurs, of course.”

Grades – what was your favourite subject in school?

“Maths because I really enjoyed the formulas and calculations, although I don’t really use them anymore.”

Hobbies – what do you do when you are not playing football?

“I love to make my own coffee, hang out with friends and I also study marketing in my spare time.”

Inspire – who did you look up to when growing up?

“I played a lot of sports when I was younger so I never had a specific idol when growing up, I looked up to all different sporting athletes.”

Job – what would you be doing if you weren’t a professional footballer?

“I think I would have opened my own coffee shop.”

Karaoke – What is your go-to karaoke song?

“It’s the ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ by Queen. It’s quite long so people can really enjoy my voice.”

Meet – What one person would you most like to meet?

“I don’t really get starstruck by anyone, so I will choose anyone from my family.”

Number – What is your lucky number?

“88. I don’t know why but I just liked the number when I was younger. It’s not specifically my lucky number, I just love the sound of it.”

Overcome – How did you overcome personal setbacks in your career?

“I just try to talk to people, family and friends, and believe there’s always a light at the end of the tunnel, that’s very important.”

Position – What was your first position in football?

“It was actually a winger. I was always confident and not scare to be in goal when I was younger, so I went in one time and I did well. After that, I switched between those two positions and, in the end, I chose to be a goalkeeper.”

Quality – Who is the best player you’ve played with?

“I would have to choose two players from my international side – Vivianne Miedema and Daniëlle van de Donk.”

Rewind – Where would you go if you could go back in time?

“The 1960s. I just felt everyone was happy and freedom in how people felt.”

Sport – If you weren’t playing football, what other sport would you do?

“Skiing. I used to do it a lot when I was younger, competing in races like the slaloms and giant slaloms. I was around 13 years old and did it for about two years, so I would enjoy doing that again.”

TV – What series are you currently watching?

“I have recently binged watched one series called ‘The White Lotus’, that was good.”
