Robbie Keane’s hat-trick, crackers from Jermain Defoe and Sandro, Michael Brown in front of the South Stand, electric Aaron Lennon, Heurelho Gomes’ save - and Andrea Pirlo’s free-kick - our Spurs Legends game against AC Milan Glorie, raising funds for our Foundation, had just about everything.

It was a joy for players and fans alike - and here’s what some of our Legends had to say afterwards…

Ledley King

"It’s been brilliant. I’ve not had the opportunity to play in this amazing stadium, I missed out against Inter a few years ago, so made sure this time I could get myself into some sort of shape to be able to get some minutes. It was just great to be back with familiar faces, players I’ve shared a lot of memories with. It’s been amazing. It’s funny… what happens, once you get out there and start playing, feeling good, you start to think further ahead and what we could do in the future! It’s just great to be together - Jermain, Azza, Daws, Sandro, he’s still so fit - we’ve a great team here!"

Robbie Keane

"I knew it... as soon as Azza gets in that position, I know exactly where to be. I knew to be inside that six-yard box and that he would get it across to me. He got two assists - typical Azza!"

On his famous celebration... "I was scared I might get stuck, to be honest! I think half a celebration is enough! It’s been fun, great to see the guys again, playing in this stadium in front of the fans again, it’s always nice. I was here for the first game against Inter, as well. It’s a special moment, seeing the guys again. It was a special group we had back then, and to get to see them again, it’s always nice."

Michael Dawson

"We all appreciate everyone coming out to support us. I hope they had as much fun as we did. It’s been absolutely brilliant, fantastic. We all got together last night (Saturday), had dinner, a glass of water - and then went out there today and enjoyed it. It was great to see players we haven’t seen for a long time, coming in from all over the world, and I’ll tell you something, I’m not too sure if anyone will fancy playing us after that performance! Our front three, Berba, Robbie, Jermain, Azza, he could still play somewhere, Sandro getting his goal, Gomes’ save - incredible! And fair play to AC Milan, as well."

Jermain Defoe

"It was amazing, amazing, Like I said before, just meeting up with the players, seeing all the lads, we don’t really get that time together, time to reminisce, all the stories, all the games. To come out again... a few of the boys played before (against Inter, 2019). The goal, amazing. As soon as I got a yard, bang!"

Steffen Freund

"I’m tired, for sure! The game was a little open in the second half. We were there on the sidelines in the first half shouting, ‘come on Younes, you must do better!’ we loved it, Sandro, tackling, I’m thinking, ‘maybe not today’. I feel at the end, when everyone has gone home, you feel it in your heart, what it means to everyone. It was special to be here."

Heurelho Gomes

On his save... "I tried to do my best - I saw it late, as well! It was just great to be here, for a great cause as well. In that moment, as a goalkeeper... we’d already scored so many goals, but for this moment as well, fantastic. It was a special match, a friendly match, but I couldn’t let that one go in!”

Younes Kaboul

"I played as a left-back for the first time in my life! I was asked to play there. I said, ‘I’ve never played left-back,’ but they said, ‘yeah, but you can do a job in there for us!’. It was amazing. I want to thank the Club and the Foundation, all the fans who turned up. It was a great day, and a great scoreline. We’re competitive, we want to win and we’re happy. As soon as I walked in the dressing room, that’s it, you zone in. You want to win. Gomes’ save was amazing, and it deflected a little off me, so his reaction was amazing."

Pascal Chimbonda

"It's always a joy to play at the stadium, and I'm glad, people turn up and support us, we gave them a show and I hope they're happy that we showed we still have it! I played with Keane, Berba, Defoe, Lennon and it’s always a pleasure, when we all play together, we enjoy it so much. It’s also always a pleasure to play against a team like AC Milan, as well. I enjoy everything about football still, coaching, playing and giving back to the youngsters what football gave me. I hope I can continue to do it."

Sebastien Bassong

"I’m at a loss for words, there is a mix of emotions, obviously I know my physical status, the way I feel, but to be on the pitch, to see the fans, to be with my old team-mates, it was amazing. Look, I’m not as free and fluent as I used to be, but I played half-hour - I gave myself 20 minutes! I played 30, 32 minutes, honestly, it was a blast. Back in the day, when Ledley had his injury issues, he would (be out|) then come back in for me, but we had that understanding, that bond was created. He’s the King! Sometimes you have to accept that, and that’s what made our team then so good, that understanding. So, today, when he came off and I came on for him, that was almost like going full circle. We always complemented each other. I still feel quite emotional. I was at Newcastle first, but Spurs raised me, raised me to a higher level. That’s why today, it’s full circle. I was speaking to Younes and Michel Vorm, we were saying how lucky we are to play here today. To be able to do what we’ve done, at such a level. We’re lucky. Spurs for one day, Spurs forever."

Michael Brown

"My goal... that was a collector’s item. I ran into the box about seven times, thinking, ‘please, one fall my way’... Berba passed to Jermain, and once he gets it, you know it’s head down, but there was a little tackle in there and all of a sudden I had a chance! It was a great moment. I was joking to a few of the lads - it might just be my last-ever goal. You know when you get a little older? So, it’s nice to score, to be part of it, to do it in front of that South Stand as well, it doesn’t get much better. It was good to see that Pirlo free-kick as well. It was made for him, wasn’t it? We all wanted to see that, a masterclass. When you’re younger, it’s a privilege to play in these games with these players, but then it goes away, and you sit at home and realise you’ve had your chance, you did alright, you’ve sampled it - but then you get the chance to come back on days like today, in front of your children, in front of the fans again, and you still feel it, because you miss it."
