Pedro Porro was on hand to help Spain reach this summer's UEFA Nations League Finals with a penalty shootout victory over the Netherlands on Sunday night.

Having earned a 2-2 draw with the Dutch in Rotterdam in Thursday night's first leg of their quarter-final bout, the two European giants played out another thrilling, high-scoring draw as Spain turned hosts at Valencia's Mestalla in the return leg.

A game of cat and mouse as Spain had taken the lead three times in the game only for the Netherlands to respond each time, including in extra-time as, after it finished 2-2 in following the regulation 90, a 109th-minute Xavi Simons penalty cancelled out Lamine Yamal's strike on 103 minutes and sent the game to a penalty shootout.

Finishing 3-3 on the night and 5-5 on aggregate, it was just as tight in the shootout with each side dispatching each of their first three kicks before both Spain's Lamine Yamal and the Netherlands' Noa Lang missed their nation's fourth.

A further kick was then converted by each side before sudden death saw Donyell Malen fail to beat Unai Simon and Pedri take his opportunity to win the game for the Spanish.

The win sends Pedro's nation into this June's Nations League Finals in Germany where they will take on France in the semi-finals. That will take place in Stuttgart on 5 June.

Spain are also the current holders of the Nation League having defeated Croatia on penalties in the Final in 2023.

Having played the full 90 minutes in Rotterdam, Pedro started the game in Valencia on the bench but was brought on four minutes into extra-time to earn his eighth cap for his nation.
