Northern Ireland call-up for Donley

Tue 18 March 2025, 12:10|Tottenham Hotspur

Jamie Donley has earned his first senior international call-up after being drafted into the Northern Ireland squad for this month’s friendlies against Switzerland and Sweden.

The 20-year-old attacking midfielder has shone on loan at Leyton Orient in recent months after a challenging start to the campaign – he made national headlines for his long-range effort against Manchester City in the FA Cup in February and was also named EFL Young Player of the Month for January.

He’s currently on six goals and five assists in 30 League One appearances for the O’s.

Part of our Premier League 2 title-winning side at Under-21 level last term, he’s made four senior appearances for us to date.

"I didn't know where to celebrate!"

Born in Antrim, Jamie previously played for Northern Ireland at youth level before representing England’s youth teams in recent years.

He’ll now have an opportunity on the senior international stage after accepting Northern Ireland’s call. Michael O’Neill’s side will host Switzerland on Friday night (21 March) before visiting Sweden next Tuesday (25 March).

“We are waiting on the relevant paperwork from FIFA to be processed before we can determine whether he plays an active role in any of the games, but having him in and around the place to familiarise himself with the place and stuff I felt was important,” said O’Neill.

Congratulations, Jamie!
