Local schoolchildren received a surprise visit from Michael Dawson on Thursday as the Spurs legend dropped in to see how our Foundation is inspiring, empowering and transforming lives in our community.

The visit to Lea Valley Primary School came ahead of Spurs Legends vs AC Milan Glorie at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday, 23 March, raising money for the Foundation to continue its vital work.

Michael said: “Being here and seeing what the Foundation’s doing, it’s incredible work. Today, the pupils had a lesson on mental health, focusing on strengths, challenges and how to overcome them. It’s the sort of provision that just hasn’t existed until recently for young people and in Tottenham this is in large part thanks to the work of the Foundation.”

The lesson was part of the Premier League Primary Stars programme delivered to 7,000 children across almost 100 schools by the Foundation since it started in 2017.

Premier League Primary Stars is the Premier League’s primary school education programme. Funded by the Premier League, through the Premier League Charitable Fund, it uses the appeal of football to help children be active and develop essential life skills.

Andrew Wands, Foundation education manager, said: “The children were so excited to have Michael visit today and we were really pleased to show him how we’re making a difference in the local community thanks to amazing funders like the Premier League.

“Operating in some of the most deprived neighbourhoods in England, we need to continue raising money so that, with the unique power of the football club, we can continue delivering on its vision to create life-changing opportunities across North London.”

Money donated to the Foundation from the legends match will go towards a wide range of programmes for people of all ages, opening doors to education, creating pathways into employment, driving healthier and happier lifestyles, and building safer, stronger communities.

In the last year, the Foundation delivered 7,400 hours of support to over 10,000 residents, turning every £1 invested into £8.04 of social value for the local area.

The legends match is set to be a star-studded affair, with the likes of David Ginola, Dimitar Berbatov and Robbie Keane joining Michael to take on an AC Milan side featuring greats such as Andrea Pirlo and Cafu.
