Local residents looking for work were welcomed back to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last week as the Foundation hosted its latest jobs fair.

The Club is a major driver of employment locally, with the Stadium supporting 3,700 full-time jobs across Haringey, Enfield and Waltham Forest, including 2,800 of those in Haringey. This was the Foundation’s eighth jobs fair held at the Stadium since 2022.

This week’s event was hosted in partnership with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), with 577 job seekers passing through the doors and 203 receiving an immediate positive outcome in the form of a job offer, interview, invite to trial shift or similar.

Chidera Mottoh, resident of Haringey, said: “I have just finished school and am open to gaining as many skills as I can, so this provides the opportunity to be exposed to lots of different roles, and broaden my perspective.”

Mehmet Huseyin, from Edmonton, added: “You don’t see a lot of these kind of jobs fairs happen anymore, which is why it is so important this event has been put on. This could be a life changing experience for someone, especially for youngsters.”

The fair was attended by over 40 local and national employers representing a variety of sectors, with opportunities on offer from large corporations, educational institutions, non-profits and services such as the Royal Air Force.

Simon Worsfold from Quint Education, an agency that provide work for people in childcare, said: “Putting these events on is a great way of meeting people face to face, and even if they don’t have the necessary skills, we can give them advice on what to do and where to look.”

Asiya Al-Hadad, who works at not-for-profit organisation Catch22, added: “We have always been a part of these Jobs Fair for the past three to four years – it is important for us to be at the heart of the community, helping young people get into creative and tech sectors. Being able to host this event at the Stadium means we can engage with a larger audience and it makes our life as employers a lot easier.”

Damian Zabielski, Foundation youth, employment and skills manager, said: “The unemployment rate in Haringey fell rapidly after the pandemic, but has risen from 1.9% to 4.5% in the last year.

“With these fantastic facilities at the Stadium and our strong partnership with the DWP, we have a really important part to play in supporting the local community and either helping them into their first job or back into work.”

The Foundation delivers a range of employment and skills programmes thanks to funding from various supporters, including the players of People’s Postcode Lottery. This includes one to one employment advice, interview skills and CV training at its Percy House headquarters, as well as career mentoring initiatives.
