Mathys Tel bagged a quickfire brace to set France Under-21s on the path to a 4-0 victory away to Slovakia on Monday evening.
The forward, on loan with us from Bayern Munich, struck in the 20th and 23rd minutes of the friendly outing to put his side in a commanding position, with two further goals after the break from Arnaud Kalimuendo completing a resounding win.
Mathys started and played 64 minutes, while Wilson Odobert came on for Kalimuendo with just under a quarter-of-an-hour remaining.
Archie Gray was also in Under-21 international action on Monday, starting for England in their 4-2 friendly win over Portugal at The Hawthorns, home of West Bromwich Albion.
After making a key block to deny Joao Marques at the start of the second half, Archie was withdrawn in the 71st minute with the Young Lions leading 2-1.
Academy goalkeeper Aaron Maguire, meanwhile, was on the bench for Republic of Ireland Under-21s as they beat Hungary 3-1 in a friendly in Spain.
Monday’s senior action saw Yves Bissouma complete 90 minutes for Mali as they battled out a goalless draw with Central African Republic in their latest World Cup qualifier. The match was played in Morocco.
Elsewhere, Dominic Solanke was an unused substitute for England as they made it two wins out of two in World Cup qualifying under new boss Thomas Tuchel, brushing aside Latvia 3-0 at Wembley.
Fellow striker Dane Scarlett came off the bench to play the last half-an-hour of a 2-2 draw for England’s Under-20 Elite League Squad against Switzerland in Spain. On-loan defender Ashley Phillips also featured as a late substitute in that game.
