Patience has been key for Destiny Udogie and Djed Spence.
Djed is now in flying form for us after waiting patiently for his chance having signed back in July, 2022. His first Premier League start came at Southampton on 15 December and since then, he's quickly racked up another 19 appearances in all competitions, starting 17. His performances earned a first Premier League Player of the Month nomination in February.
Destiny has also had to be patient after injury ruled him out of 12 matches between the turn of the year and 22 February, when he returned in our 4-1 win at Ipswich - coincidentally, the first time these close friends had lined-up together since St Mary's.

Now both fit and raring to go, and despite vying for a starting place in what is a positive selection dilemma for Ange Postecoglou, Destiny is full of praise for his fellow defender and spoke of their mutual respect to help each other learn and improve.
“I think Djed is an incredible player,” explained Destiny, speaking in a recent edition of our Official Matchday Progamme. “We are really close friends, we speak a lot and we try to help each other in the games. Everyone in the group is here to help and I hope he can help us as much.
“Since he's come in he's having a top season. He's helping the team a lot. We speak every day and try to help by teaching each other new stuff so he helps me, I help him and it's a great relationship.”
