It was tense and fiery in Montevideo on Friday night as Cristian Romero's Argentina and Rodrigo Bentancur's Uruguay went head-to-head.
Locked in battle to secure a place in next year's 2026 FIFA World Cup in a 10-strong South American league table, Cristian's Argentina maintained their six-point lead at the top of the mini-league with a narrow 1-0 victory over Rodrigo's nation at the Centenario.
The pair both started for their respective nations in the Uruguay capital as Argentina looked to avenge a 2-0 home soil defeat to Uruguay from earlier in the campaign.
Cuti was making his 41st appearance for his nation while Rodrigo picked up his 57th cap for Uruguay. The duo played the full 90 minutes with the sides only separated by Thiago Almada's 68th-minute curling effort.
In the sixth minute of injury time, La Albiceleste were reduced to 10 men with Nicolas Gonzalez dismissed for serious foul play as he caught Nahitan Nandez with a high boot.
While Cuti's nation lead the mini-league in South America, Lolo's Uruguay sit fourth but are comfortably inside the qualification places with seven points separating them and seventh-placed Bolivia.
