Team news | Ange's latest on Cuti and Micky: "Next back from long-term injuries"

Fri 24 January 2025, 12:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Ange Postecoglou has confirmed that defensive duo Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven will be the next returnees from our longer-term injured list, but that Cuti isn't ready to return to the matchday squad having trained with the squad ahead of our trip to Hoffenheim this week.

Cuti trained with the players on Wednesday before they travelled to Germany for MD7 in the league phase of the UEFA Europa League - a fine 3-2 win.

Asked in his pre-match press conference at Hotspur Way on Friday if Cuti was therefore ready to return to the squad for Sunday's Premier League clash against Leicester City at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Ange said: "No, we've got him back training... him and Micky are the two next back from the long-term ones.

"They've still got a bit to do in terms of training with the team. We haven't really trained a lot, the other day was a low-tempo session, but it was just good to get him involved, not just for him, but for the players, they need help, some encouragement and to see Cuti training would have given them a big lift. Micky's not too far away, either. Again, these players will come back, it's not all doom and gloom. It's good to see for the players. He's joined in training the last couple of days but he's still got a bit of work to do."

Ange also said Djed Spence had joined Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma in being doubtful for Sunday. Guglielmo Vicario, Destiny Udogie, Brennan Johnson, Timo Werner and Dominic Solanke remain sidelined.
