Ashleigh Neville: “The games are coming thick and fast”

Fri 24 January 2025, 08:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Ashleigh Neville is keen to put Wednesday night’s disappointment in the Women’s League Cup to one side and turn our attention for the trip to Crystal Palace this weekend.

Despite an early goal from Martha Thomas – her first goal of the campaign – the Hammers hit back on the stroke of half time via Seraina Piubel and Kirsty Smith’s free-kick to lead 2-1, and that’s how it stayed in the second half.

The experienced defender, who has featured in every game for us in all competition so far this season, felt we couldn’t capitalise on a strong showing in the opening stages before the visitors turned the game into their favour.

We had a few half-cut chances that maybe on a different day would have gone, and the game would have been different.

Speaking to SPURSPLAY after the game, Ashleigh said: “I thought we started really well, we obviously got another early goal, like we did on Sunday, which is great and I felt like we controlled the game better than we did against Leicester, which were happy with.

“We had a few half-cut chances that maybe on a different day would have gone, and the game would have been different, but we kind of allowed them to get back into it and then it becomes an uphill challenge when you’re trying to break down a low block, it just wasn’t our night.”

Despite the disappointment in the cup, our focus quickly turns back to the Barclays Women’s Super League as we travel to Crystal Palace on Sunday.

“The games are coming thick and fast now,” she added. “So we have to go away, recover, take a look back at our individual performances but we have to move quickly as we have Palace on Sunday, and that’s a big game.”
