Son’s ‘Olimpico’ wins December Goal of the Month Award

Heung-Min Son has claimed December’s Goal of the Month award in appreciation of his remarkable ‘Olimpico’ finish against Manchester United.

Coming in the Carabao Cup quarter-final against the Red Devils, our captain scored a crucial fourth goal direct from a corner kick in the closing stages of our frenetic 4-3 victory at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on 19 December.

In complete control at 3-0 up by the 54th minute courtesy of Dominic Solanke’s double and Dejan Kulusevski, the visitors hit back to make it 3-2 with 20 minutes remaining until Sonny produced a moment of magic rarely seen when his pinpoint in-swinging corner looped over United goalkeeper Altay Bayindir and nestled into the far corner.

Coming two minutes from time, that turned out to be the match winner after Jonny Evans headed in for 4-3 deep into added time as we progressed to the last four of the competition where we face Liverpool over two legs across January and February.

The goal was the standout winner taking 78 per cent of the vote in a poll run across our website and official app, with our number seven claiming his second such award of the campaign after winning it back in August.
