Potential round of 16 opponents learn their knockout play-off round opponents

Our potential opponents in the Europa League round of 16 have learned their ties for the knockout play-off round.

While we secured a place in the top eight of the competition thanks to last night's 3-0 win over Elfsborg to book our place in the last 16, our opponents for that stage will be determined in the knockout play-offs next month.

We already know we will face one of Galatasaray, Real Sociedad, Midtjylland and AZ Alkmaar, and that opponent will be determined via a pair of two legged ties in February.

In a draw at the House of European Football this afternoon, we have learned that AZ Alkmaar will face Galatasaray while Midtjylland will take on Real Sociedad in the play-offs. The winners of each tie will move on to the round of 16.

There will then be a further draw on Friday 21 February to determine which of us and Manchester United (our paired side in the draw) the play-off victors will face.

The first leg of that round of 16 tie will take place on Thursday 6 March. The return fixture, at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, comes a week later on Thursday 13 March.
