One loss in 24 - our record in the third round of the FA Cup after Tamworth win

Mon 13 January 2025, 10:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Our hard-earned 3-0 win at Tamworth on Sunday extended our current sequence of only losing once in the third round of the Emirates FA Cup since 2005/06.

An own goal (101 minutes) and strikes from Dejan Kulusevski (107) and Brennan Johnson (118) in extra time saw us home 3-0 against the National League side at The Lamb Ground and set up a tie against Aston Villa at Villa Park in the fourth round...

That now equates to one defeat in our last 24 matches since suffering a 3-2 reverse at Leicester City on 8 January, 2006. Arsenal were the team to dent our run in the third round in the 2013/14 campaign with a 2-0 win at the Emirates on 4 January, 2014.

We first entered the FA Cup in 1894/95, and we've now played 143 matches in the third round of the competition going all the way back to our first run to the third round in 1898/99, where we lost at Stoke. As a Southern League club in those days, we played nine matches to reach that stage, starting from the third qualifying round! Two years later, in 1901, we'd create history as the first non-league club to win the FA Cup - a record that remains to this day.

We've only lost five third round ties since the launch of the Premier League era in 1992/93, and taking into account our replay loss at Newcastle in the 1999/2000 season was played in December, 1999, we've only lost three times in the third round this century!
