Delighted Lucas Bergvall described the “crazy feeling” he experienced after bagging our late winner against Liverpool on Wednesday night.
The teenage Sweden international picked the ideal moment to open his competitive goalscoring account in our colours, planting home after great work from Dominic Solanke to give us the advantage in our Carabao Cup semi-final heading into the second leg at Anfield next month.
Speaking in the aftermath of our 1-0 win on a freezing night at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Lucas smiled: “It’s unbelievable! To score my first goal here at home in front of all the supporters, and a 1-0 win against Liverpool, it couldn’t be better.
“It’s a crazy feeling. Ever since I signed for Spurs, this was a dream. I’ve scored my first goal and hopefully now there will be many more to come.
“As the game went on, I just felt I got more energy and we helped each other as a team, worked really hard. It’s been tough in the last few weeks. We haven’t won many games and that’s tough to take, but we just have to keep going. Today, we earned this win and hopefully we can keep it going.”
Striker Dominic earned praise from all quarters for his strength and determination to hold onto possession and set up Lucas after Pedro Porro’s long ball forward – something the young midfielder echoed after the game.
“Firstly, Dom was top – taking the ball down and then passing to me, it felt like it was the perfect pass and it was one touch into the first corner, a really good goal,” Lucas reflected.
“It’s a great long ball from Pedro, Dom does a brilliant job, passes to me and I just... I didn’t know about the celebration. It was just a feeling. It’s unbelievable!”
