'It felt amazing, a dream come true' - Olusesi on making his Spurs debut

Sat 25 January 2025, 18:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Callum Olusesi was on cloud nine at full-time at the PreZero Arena on Thursday night after he made his senior debut for the Club in our 3-2 win over Hoffenheim.

A player who has risen through the ranks of our Academy, the midfielder came on as an 89th-minute substitute in Germany, replacing James Maddison, as we claimed an important three points to move back into the Europa League league phase top right.

The moment will be one the 17-year-old will never forget - especially in context of the past week!

Only on Monday was Callum stepping out for our Under-18s at Blundell Park in north Lincolnshire as he helped our young lads make it through to round five of the FA Youth Cup with a dramatic 5-3 win over Grimsby Town.

Then, just three days later, he was achieving the biggest dream of any aspiring young footballer - making his senior professional debut, and it was on the European stage!

It’s a bit surreal going from the Under-18s to the first team in a couple of days!

"It felt amazing, a dream come true," Callum smiled in Sinsheim. "I’ve been working for this for all these years, the opportunity came and I’m just grateful for it.

"We had a big win for the Under-18s (on Monday night at Grimsby). It was a tough game, we pushed through and then I ended up here, the opportunity came to make my debut. It’s a bit surreal going from the Under-18s to the first team in a couple of days!"

"I got on the pitch and tried my best. It was really intense. It was 3-2, so we had to dig deep and get the win, really intense."

While the night will be one Callum will never forget, one part of it that will perhaps have made it that bit more special is the fact that one of his childhood best mates was also on the pitch at the same time.

A player who he has risen through the ranks alongside, Cal has been good friends with fellow Academy graduate Mikey Moore since the pair were just five-years-old so, to be together on the pitch at the same time for that moment made the debut just that bit more special.

"(Mikey and I) have been together since we were five-years-old. Even before we were at Spurs," the 17-year-old revealed. "This is dream a come true for both of us and hopefully there is more to come.

"I’ve got to work hard in training and any opportunity that comes, I’ll have to grab it with both hands."
