“I want to be part of the journey” | Kop on signing for Spurs

Lize Kop is ready to get started in a Spurs shirt after signing on the dotted line.
Joining from Leicester City on Wednesday, the goalkeeper penned a deal until June 2028 on Wednesday (15 January) and she will wear the number one shirt.
With over 100 senior career appearances to date, the experienced shot-stopper is ready to embark on a new adventure following one and a half seasons at the Foxes.
And the Netherlands international is now excited to wear the Lilywhite shirt and be part of the Club’s journey, outlining the similarities between our style of play matching to hers.
“It has been amazing,” she told SPURSPLAY after signing her contract with the Club. “I’m very excited to start here, meet the team and I can’t wait to get on the pitch.
I’m very excited to join Spurs and continue my career, but also the team’s journey as well.
“They (Spurs) want to play good football, building up from the back, and I feel it really fits in with what I want to do.
“I really like the stories they (Spurs) had when I was speaking to them, the ambitions the Club has got are really important and I feel I fit in this story as well. We want to grow a lot and I want to be part of that journey, keep improving and aiming for the top as a Club.”
Born and raised in Wormer, Netherlands, the 26-year-old began her career in her native country with Ajax, rising through their academy set-up before making her senior debut in September, 2017.
Six seasons later with de Godendochters, Lize racked up over 100 appearances, winning the Dutch top flight league on two occasions, and she believed her time with the Amsterdam side developed her to where she is now.
“It was very interesting,” when reflecting on her career so far. “I started professionally at Ajax and had time to work on myself, learn from mistakes and learn to be a professional footballer.
“I have had some injuries, that was tough, but I feel that makes you a better player in the end, you know how much you appreciate stuff.
“I feel I had some good games in this league, I enjoy playing here so much, it’s one of the better leagues in the world, so now I’m very excited to join Spurs and continue my career, but also the team’s journey as well.”
We return to WSL action on Sunday afternoon (12.30pm UK) as we face Leicester City at Brisbane Road and Lize had a short message to our Lilywhite fanbase ahead of our first game of the new year.
“I’m really excited to meet the fans, give my energy to them and feel the energy of them as well,” she added.
“I played at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last season and I could feel they were all there, but this time I’m really excited to meet them on the other side.”
