Heung-Min Son says we have to keep believing as we aim to turn our fortunes around against Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday.
The skipper was hit hard by our derby defeat at Arsenal on Wednesday night. Sonny put us ahead after 25 minutes at the Emirates - his 170th goal for us in 434 appearances - but the Gunners hit back via an own goal and Leandro Trossard’s strike to lead 2-1 at half-time, and that’s how it stayed.
That made it one win in nine in this testing spell in the Premier League. Speaking on our Review Show, Sonny told us: “I feel for the fans, for the club, because this means so much. It’s very painful. It’s already past, so I don’t want to talk about regrets, we just have to be ready for the next games, to keep working hard and believe in what we’re doing, and commit to it, get our winning ways and our confidence back.”
David Moyes is back in charge at Everton and the Toffees pushed Villa all the way (10-11 shots, 49-51% possession) on his return to the Goodison dugout, a 1-0 loss, also on Wednesday night.
Sonny added: “I can’t speak highly enough of the boys, for the work rate, the commitment, it’s 100% there. In this (Arsenal) game, some of us, including me, had to step up. Look, I’ve been here nearly 10 years and I’ve never been in this position, I really feel it and take responsibility. We have to make sure everyone is ready for the weekend, try to get the win, take confidence (from that) and bring the winning ways back, which is very important at the moment.”
