International | Morris registers assist for England Under-23s

Fri 21 February 2025, 10:30|Tottenham Hotspur

Ella Morris provided an assist for England Under-23s as they suffered a 3-2 defeat to Germany in an international friendly on Thursday evening.

Having returned to action in the north London derby at the weekend, following a long spell on the sidelines due to a MCL Injury, the defender earned her first start since the end of November and teed up Michelle Agyemang for her second goal of the game.

Michelle fired the Young Lionesses ahead in the opening stages at Walsall’s Bescot Stadium but a double from Alara Sehitler saw Germany take the lead before the half hour mark. However, Emma Coates’ side grabbed an equaliser on the stroke of half time, Ella’s inviting low cross was tapped home by the Brighton forward at the back post.

The visitors secured the win in the second half as Sophie Weidauer’s strike proved to be the difference between the two sides.

Ella completed 58 minutes before making way for Olivia McLoughlin, while Lenna Gunning-Williams was a second half substitute, coming on in the 72nd minute for Missy Bo Kearns.

Araya Dennis was also a second half substitute for England Under-19s as they were defeated 2-0 by Spain on Thursday afternoon in the opening game of the Albir Garden Tournament.

Raso, Hunt & Grant in action for the Matildas

Hayley Raso, Clare Hunt and Charlotte Grant all featured for Australia on Thursday evening as they suffered a 4-0 loss to Japan in their SheBelieves Cup opener.

Mina Tanaka netted a brace while Maika Hamano and Moeka Minami were also on the scoresheet in a strong performance by the top-ranked Asian side at the Shell Energy Stadium, Houston.

Hayley and Clare both started and completed the full match for the Matildas, while ‘Charli’ was introduced just after the hour mark.

The energetic full-back came close to netting a late consolation goal for her nation as her effort smashed off the crossbar.
