Anna Csiki, Olga Ahtinen, Martha Thomas and Luana Buhler all started for their respective national teams and experienced mixed fortunes in Friday night’s UEFA Women’s Nations League opener.
Anna earned her 45th cap as Hungary faced Belarus at the Lagator Stadium in the opening game of their group phase. The midfielder completed 83 minutes as her country secured a 2-0 win thanks to second half goals from Lilla Turanyi and Diana Csanyi.
Fellow midfielder Olga Ahtinen started and completed a full 90 minutes for Finland as they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Serbia in Group Three of League B – alongside Hungary and Belarus.
Martha Thomas’ Scotland also endured a disappointing start to their Nations League campaign with a 1-0 loss to Austria. The forward started and completed 57 minutes at the Josko Arena in Ried, Austria, as Lilli Purtscheller’s early strike separated the two sides.
Earning her 55th cap, Luana also started and played the full match as she helped Switzerland keep a clean sheet in their goalless draw with Iceland in Zurich.
Outside of Europe, Rosella Ayane was a second half substitute in Morocco's 1-0 win over Ghana in an international friendly. Sakina Ouzraoui Diki netted an injury time winner for the Atlas Lionesses to help them to victory on Friday evening.
