We now know the two teams we could potentially be drawn against in the UEFA Europa League round of 16 after the two-legged play-off round ties were completed on Thursday evening.
We already knew we could face one of Galatasaray, AZ Alkmaar, Real Sociedad or FC Midtjylland in the next round and now after the former and latter two teams met each other, the list of potential opponents has been whittled down to two.
First up, AZ Alkmaar drew their second leg 2-2 at Galatasaray, securing an aggregate 6-3 victory over the Turkish side and eliminating them from the competition.
Later in the evening, Real Sociedad won 5-2 at home to Midtjylland in their second leg, leading to a 7-3 aggregate triumph for the Spanish outfit.
That means we’re set to meet either AZ Alkmaar or Real Sociedad over two legs next month for a place in the quarter-finals. We’ll be away in the first leg on Thursday 6 March, before hosting the return match at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday 13 March.
The draw for the knockout rounds will be conducted in Switzerland on Friday – find all the details you need to know ahead of the draw here.
