Djed Spence your Player of the Match after win at Brentford

Djed Spence has been named your HSBC Player of the Match after an all-action performance in Sunday’s 2-0 win away at Brentford.

Called straight back into action after missing our previous three games through injury, Djed showed no signs of rust with a superb display at the Gtech Community Stadium, producing a performance which saw him earn his first Player of the Match award thanks to votes from our supporters in a poll hosted exclusively on our official App.

His constant threat on the overlap and forward forays caused headaches for the Bees all afternoon, and he barely put a foot wrong in defence, dealing exceptionally well with the dangerous Bryan Mbeumo.

Crucially, his positioning and anticipation for Fabio Carvalho’s late overhead effort was perfect, clearing off the line to maintain our clean sheet.

As part of our composed defensive ensemble alongside Ben Davies, Archie Gray and Pedro Porro, Djed stood firm to blunt a relentless home attack and was also named the Premier League's Player of the Match.

The late clearance to deny Carvalho was one of five he made in the win and he emerged the victor from 70% of his duels on the ground.

Our number 24 will no doubt be hoping to build on his fine performance in Thursday’s crucial League Cup second leg at Anfield.
