Spurs vs Brentford | Form guide ahead of Bees visit

Fri 20 September 2024, 13:30|Tottenham Hotspur

Brentford come into this weekend's fixture having won four of their opening six games in all competitions so far this season.

The Bees have beaten both Crystal Palace and Southampton on home turf in the league and suffered narrow defeats to Liverpool and Manchester City on the road, whilst their Carabao Cup campaign has seen wins over Colchester United and Leyton Orient to date.

However, Thomas Frank's side have only won two of their last 10 league games on the road, and have only won once in N17 since 1949.

The last five...

25 August 2024 - Premier League - Liverpool 2-0 Brentford

28 August 2024 - Carabao Cup - Colchester United 0-1 Brentford (Lewis-Potter)

31 August 2024 - Premier League - Brentford 3-1 Southampton (Mbeumo (2) & Wissa)

14 September 2024 - Premier League - Manchester City 2-1 Brentford (Wissa)

17 September 2024 - Carabao Cup - Brentford 3-1 Leyton Orient (Carvalho, Damsgaard & Norgaard)

Brentford kicked off their campaign with a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace, Bryan Mbeumo opened the scoring when he cut in from the left and curled a shot home, as Palace had two goals ruled out, one in either half.

They came before an Ethan Pinnock own goal just before the hour mark levelled the game up, however a close range finish from Yoane Wissa 14 minutes from time secured the points.

A 2-0 defeat at Anfield followed, as Luis Diaz opened the scoring 13 minutes in, after a clinical counter-attack from a Bees corner, whilst Kris Ajer had a header clawed off the line by Alisson.

Goalkeeper Mark Flekken saved two attempts from Andy Robertson, including one with his face, as well as efforts from Ibrahima Konate and Diaz, whilst the woodwork denied Dominik Szoboszlai and Cody Gakpo, but Mo Salah sealed victory after the Reds picked up on a loose ball in the Brentford half, Diaz played the Egyptian in and he slotted it into the bottom left corner.

Back-to-back wins followed, starting at the Jobserve Community Stadium, where Keane Lewis-Potter's first-half goal prove decisive after Colchester saw Hakon Valdimarsson save Tom Payne's 82nd minute penalty in the Carabao Cup.

The Bees then started quickly against Southampton, with Mikkel Damsgaard forcing a save from Aaron Ramsdale in the second minute, whilst Christian Norgaard and two chances for Wissa all came the Bees way in the opening 35 minutes.

Bryan Mbeumo broke the deadlock just before the break, with Damsgaard dispossessing Harwood-Bellis deep in the Southampton half, Kevin Schade hit the woodwork and it fell kindly to the Cameroonian who tucked home the rebound.

The second half saw Schade and Norgaard call Ramsdale into action again before Southampton were dispossessed again deep in their own half, Mbeumo was played in and bagged his brace by slotting it into the bottom left corner.

Five minutes later and the points were wrapped up, Mathias Jensen whipped a cross in for Vitaly Janelt to head to the back post where Wissa was arriving to bundle it home, a result that lifted the Bees to fifth in the Premier League table at the time.

A tough trip to the Etihad was next, and Yoane Wissa sprung a surprise when he opened the scoring in the very first minute, as John Stones couldn't clear the ball when Lewis-Potter headed down a cross from Ajer, and the Brentford forward was there to head home at the back post.

However an Erling Haaland double turned the game around before half-time, the Norwegian was denied a hat-trick thanks to the woodwork and a combination of strong saves from Flekken.

It was back to winning ways in midweek, but only after falling behind to an early shock goal from Leyton Orient in the Carabao Cup.

A superb bicycle kick from Fabio Carvalho, along with a header from Damsgaard and a long range effort from Norgaard completed the comeback to maintain the Bees 100% home record so far this season.

Their results leave them ninth in the Premier League table, having scored and conceded six apiece.
