Spurs vs Arsenal | Form guide ahead of the north London derby

Thu 12 September 2024, 14:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Arsenal come into Sunday's north London derby with an unbeaten start to the season.

Back-to-back wins over Wolves and Aston Villa, both through a 2-0 scoreline ensured a strong start.

However an eight-game winning streak came to an end last time out as Brighton came from behind to pick up a point at the Emirates thanks to a Joao Pedro goal, before the international break.

The Gunners have picked up 25 points in their last 10 league games, keeping six clean sheets and conceding just six times in that run.

Mikel Arteta's side haven't dropped points on the road since a draw against Man City at the Etihad back in March, and are yet to suffer a league defeat on the road in 2024, with Fulham the last side to beat them in December, 2023, after coming from behind at Craven Cottage thanks to goals from Raul Jimenez and Bobby Decordova-Reid.

The last five...

7 August - Friendly - Arsenal 4-1 Bayer Leverkusen (Zinchenko, Trossard, Jesus, Havertz)

11 August - Friendly - Arsenal 2-0 Lyon (Saliba, Gabriel)

17 August - Premier League - Arsenal 2-0 Wolves (Havertz, Saka)

24 August - Premier League - Aston Villa 0-2 Arsenal (Trossard, Saka)

31 August - Premier League - Arsenal 1-1 Brighton & Hove Albion (Havertz)

The season began with a win and a clean sheet against Wolves at the Emirates Stadium as a Kai Havertz header from a Bukayo Saka cross opened their account.

David Raya had to pull off a strong save to deny Jurgen Strand Larsen a goal on debut, as the striker nearly sent the Spaniard the wrong way with a header at the near post.

Rayan Ait-Nouri and Matheus Cunha were also gifted possession deep in the Arsenal half, the former's effort went wide, whilst the latter's was straight at Raya.

Those missed chances were punished, when the roles were reversed from the first goal, as Havertz utilised a quick free-kick for Saka to cut in from the right to double their lead.

A trip to Aston Villa was next, with the Villans the only side to have beaten the Gunners in their last 21 fixtures, when Leon Bailey and Ollie Watkins struck late on at the Emirates back in April.

The hosts created plenty of chances, Leon Bailey forced an error from Gabriel, but Ollie Watkins put the chance wide from 12 yards out.

Amadou Onana also hit the crossbar with an effort, which gave Watkins a headed chance from a few yards out, but Raya sprung up to pull off a save to keep them out.

Leandro Trossard scored 67 minutes in, just 110 seconds after being introduced as a substitute, and 10 minutes later Partey doubled the lead to take the points.

A Declan Rice red card was the main talking point when Brighton visited the Emirates last month.

Havertz opened the scoring thanks to another Saka assist seven minutes before the interval, a goal which Brighton Manager Fabian Hurzeler felt came "against the run of play" and that was because Kaoru Mitoma had just fired an effort wide at the other end.

But just three minutes after the restart Arteta's side were down to 10-men, as Rice, who was already cautioned, delayed restart and earned himself a suspension for Sunday's fixture.

Then 10 minutes later the Seagulls made the advantage pay, Lewis Dunk played a ball through to Yankuba Minteh who saw his effort saved, but Joao Pedro tucked home the rebound.

Yasin Ayari could've won it late on, a deflection left the the goal gaping, but his effort went straight at a stranded Raya.

Arsenal come into this weekend's fixture 4th in the Premier League table, behind Manchester City, Liverpool and Brighton.
