Ange Postecoglou looked back at our performance and 3-1 win against Brentford on Saturday and told us: “I said to the lads after the game that’s exactly who we want to be.”
Having to recover from Bryan Mbuemo’s goal timed at 23 seconds, the team put together a complete performance, our pressing game so impressive as Brentford tried to play out, raining in 23 shots across the 90 minutes at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Ange pointed to how everyone contributed as Dominic Solanke’s first goal in a Spurs shirt levelled it up on eight minutes, Brennan Johnson’s second goal this week put us ahead on 28 and Guglielmo Vicario made key saves from Mbuemo and Kevin Schade before the outstanding James Maddison wrapped up the points with the third goal five minutes from time.
I believe in it, I know the boys believe in it, the coaches believe in it. We see it every day and it’s who we’re going to be

He also highlighted how the team’s leaders combined for that crucial third goal as Cristian Romero found Heung-Min Son, who in turn found Madders to finish - vice-captain to captain to vice-captain.
Speaking to The Review Show, Ange reflected: “It was fun, it was exciting... relentless is a good word for it because you know irrespective of the scoreline or the minute in the game we just keep going and I know we have the capacity to do that.
“I think you know the first games in the league haven't really reflected that because we haven't got the rewards for what I think has been some good play, but you could tell today that they weren't going to let that happen. Our pressing was unbelievable and our general play in that front third was really, really good. The boys had a clear focus on ways we could get through them and create opportunities for ourselves.
“Of course, we kept them in the game by not getting that third goal, but we had a little bit of everything... we needed Vic a couple of times, so he contributes, everyone contributes to the game. Obviously, it wasn’t an ideal start, but it was almost like it never happened. The boys just got on with it, didn't let it affect them at all and I’m really, really pleased for them.”
