Heung-Min Son surpassed former Spurs man Lee Young-pyo's (709) cap tally for Korea on Thursday as he made his 128th appearance for his nation.

Captaining his country once more as they kicked off their third round of 2026 World Cup qualifiers in Seoul, the game was Sonny's 128th for Korea, meaning he his now ahead of Lee, who earned 127 caps during his career.

Taking on Palestine in the Korean capital, Sonny played 90 minutes as his nation were held to a 0-0 draw. Summer signing Yang Min-hyeok, who is finishing his campaign with Gangwon FC before joining us in January, 2025, has been called up by his country for the first time but he was not selected for the matchday squad.

The first Korean to play for the Club, left-back Lee represented us between 2005 and 2008 and played just shy of 100 games for us before moving to Borussia Dortmund.

Back in May, 2019, the former full-back paid a visit to Hotspur Way to catch up with former colleagues and Sonny while he also caught up with us on both on our recent trips to Korea, both in 2022 and this past summer.
