Matter of stats | Spurs vs Brentford | Can Maddison sting the Bees again?

Fri 20 September 2024, 15:05|Tottenham Hotspur

The statistics are pointing towards James Maddison playing a key role when we take on Brentford at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday (3pm UK).

The playmaker has been a thorn in the Bees' side over his career so far - he's either scored (two goals) or assisted (four assists) in five of his six meetings against the west London side in the Premier League.

That included a double assist on his debut for us at the Gtech on the opening day of last season, where he whipped in a free-kick for Cristian Romero's opener and then set up Emerson Royal for the equaliser after we'd fallen 2-1 behind. Madders followed up with an assist as Richarlison scored our third goal in eight minutes to turn around a 1-0 deficit and eventual 3-2 win at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on 31 January.

The omens are also good for Dominic Solanke, who scored both home and away against Brentford on his way to a 19-goal haul in the Premier League last season.

Match stats

- We have lost just one of our 17 matches against Brentford in all competitions (W10 D6)
- Our 10 goals against Brentford have been scored by nine different players - plus an own goal - Harry Kane (2), Heung-Min Son, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Cristian Romero, Emerson Royal, Destiny Udogie, Brennan Johnson and Richarlison
- We go into this weekend having forced the most high turnovers (47) and possession (67.8%) in the Premier League this season. We've also allowed opponents to complete just 795 passes so far, 301 fewer than any other side
- Only Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White (11) has created more open play chances in the Premier League this season than Pedro Porro (10), who is the only player to have created four or more open play chances in two different games this season (4 vs Leicester, 4 vs Arsenal)
- Since the start of last season, we've won eight of our nine Premier League matches kicking off in the traditional 3pm slot on a Saturday (L1), with each of our last eight such matches coming on home soil
- Brentford were unbeaten in six Premier League games kicking off at 3pm on a Saturday prior to last weekend’s defeat at Manchester City. The Bees last lost consecutive such fixtures in December, 2023
- Brentford have lost 12 of their last 16 away Premier League matches (W3 D1) - all four of their away London derbies in this sequence have been lost
- Brentford goalkeeper Mark Flekken has made 22 saves in four Premier League matches this season, six more than any other goalkeeper. Since 2003/04, only one goalkeeper has ever made more saves in a team’s first four games in a season - Tim Krul for Newcastle in 2015-16 (23)
