Under-21s to enter new National League Cup

Thu 19 September 2024, 15:00|Tottenham Hotspur

We can confirm that our Under-21s will enter the National League Cup, a new competition launched this season by the Premier League and National League.

The tournament will see 16 Under-21 sides from across the Premier League and EFL participating alongside 16 first teams from National League clubs, giving our young players another opportunity to test themselves against senior opposition.

The group stage sees the 32 participating sides split into four groups of eight, each with four National League clubs and four Under-21 sides. Each Under-21 team will play the four National League clubs in their group away from home.

The two best-placed teams in each group advance to the knockout stages to determine the winner.

Tony Scholes, Chief Football Officer at the Premier League, said: “We’re excited to launch this new competition in partnership with the National League. The competition will provide additional opportunities for young players in the under 17-21 age groups to gain valuable experience of playing against first team opposition, something many of our current Premier League stars have experienced in their development. We’re pleased to be able to support in the operation of the competition and look forward to seeing the wider benefits it will bring to National League clubs.”

Mark Ives, General Manager at the National League, said: “This new competition presents another exciting chapter in our partnership with the Premier League. Our sides will have a great opportunity to compete against some of the best Academy players in the country. We’re excited to be working closer with the Premier League on the operational side of the new competition and look forward to continuing our valued partnership further.”

We have been drawn in Group D in the inaugural tournament, where we’ll travel to play Dagenham & Redbridge, Ebbsfleet United, Sutton United and Braintree Town. Nottingham Forest, West Bromwich Albion and West Ham United are the other Under-21 sides in our group.

Confirmed fixture details for our first three games in the competition can be found below – details on the fourth game against Braintree Town will be announced in due course.

Tickets for all matches will be available via the host clubs.

Supporters are reminded that all fixture dates and kick-off times are subject to change.
