Timo talks teamwork with local school students

Timo Werner headed to Park View School in Haringey on Tuesday to surprise students taking part in a Premier League Inspires session, delivered by Tottenham Hotspur Foundation.

The personal development programme empowers students at risk of not meeting their potential through a series of regular face-to-face group sessions, mentoring, workshops and social action projects.

Students get to celebrate their participation by visiting Tottenham Hotspur Stadium – an event Timo himself attended earlier this year.

Today, he saw the work being delivered by our Foundation in the schools themselves, taking part in PE games and challenges, before a Q&A around the topic of teamwork.

Timo said: “It’s always fantastic meeting the kids who support the Club and represent our local area.

“The most important thing for the kids is to learn and have fun, and I get the feeling they enjoyed the session today. Hopefully they can come to the Stadium and enjoy a session there, as with the group I met earlier this year.

"The Club, through the Foundation, does a great job engaging with our local community and ensuring to reach out to kids from an early age.

“I think this is what the Premier League Inspires programme is about, providing opportunities for kids to enjoy themselves at an early stage and helping them to grow as individuals.”

Among those participating in the PE activities was Callum, 13, who said: “It was a really good experience. I learnt from Timo to make sure you’re always cooperating as there will be more chance of learning in a team than by yourself.

“Premier League Inspires has been a good experience so far. We’ve been taught about communication and teamwork, and Timo said we worked well as a team, so it shows the Foundation’s helping us to improve.”

Myri Demetriou, Foundation senior coordinator, said: “There’s no better way to achieve the aim of this programme, to inspire students in their education, than by having a player join them for a session. You could feel a buzz around the school upon Timo’s arrival today and it was a real boost for the students taking part in Premier League Inspires.”

Premier League Inspires was launched in 2019 and the Foundation has since delivered it across 30 schools in Haringey, Enfield and surrounding London boroughs, with 743 young people benefiting from 4,725 hours of targeted support.

It is funded by the Premier League and Professional Footballers’ Association through the Premier League Charitable Fund.
