Fri 25 October 2024, 19:30|Tottenham Hotspur

Martha Thomas grabbed the winner for Scotland as they took a 1-0 advantage in the first leg of their UEFA Euro 2025 play-off double-header against Hungary on Friday night.

On the hour mark, Nicola Docherty floated in a cross from the left and the forward does well to hold off her defender before unleashing a powerful shot from inside the box into the roof of the net.

It was Martha’s sixth goal in the qualifying stage of EURO 2025, while it was her first competitive goal of the 2024/25 campaign.

Our number 17 faced fellow team-mate Anna Csiki, who joined us in the summer from BK Hacken, as she started for Hungary at Bozsik Arena in Budapest.

The midfielder completed 90 minutes before being substituted in stoppage time, becoming the first player to earn a cap for Hungary while playing in our colours.

The second leg will take place on Tuesday (29 October) as Martha’s Scotland welcome Anna’s Hungary to Easter Road, in Edinburgh, with a chance to progress to the second round of the play-offs still up for grabs for both sides.

Elsewhere in the first round of EURO 2025 play-offs, Olga Ahtinen and Eveliina Summanen featured in Finland’s 1-0 win away at Montenegro on Friday afternoon.

Our Finnish duo started and completed the full 90 minutes at Podgorica City Stadium, with the reserve fixture also taking place on Tuesday (29 October) in Tampere.

Araya Dennis was a second half substitute for England Under-19s as the Young Lionesses kicked off their Algarve Cup campaign with a 3-1 victory over the Netherlands on Friday afternoon.

The 18-year-old was introduced on 64 minutes for Lauren Smith’s side as first half goals from Maddy Earl, who scored twice, and Lexi Potter was enough to secure the win.
