Amanda Nildén provided an assist and Matilda Vinberg was a second half substitute as Sweden ran out comfortable 4-0 winners over Luxembourg in the first leg of the UEFA EURO 2025 play-off first round.
On a great night for the duo at Stade Emile Mayrisch, in Luxembourg, Amanda, who netted her first competitive goal in our colours before the international break, started and set up the second goal for The Blagult just after the half hour mark.
The defender picked up the ball on the left-hand side and advanced inside, evading a number of challenges, before feeding the ball to Johanna Rytting Kaneryd, who fired low into the bottom corner from inside the box.
Amanda went on to complete the full 90 minutes on the night, being part of the backline that kept a clean sheet, while forward Matilda Vinberg was introduced in the second half as she replaced Fridolina Rolfo in the 66th minute.
A resounding victory in the first leg sees Sweden in complete control of the play-off tie ahead of the reserve fixture in four days’ time at Gamla Ullevi, with a chance to go one step closer to securing a place at next summer’s EURO 2025 finals in Switzerland.
That was Amanda’s 10th cap for her country to date, while it was Matilda’s eighth cap in total for her country.
