Six pack | How Johnson equalled Kane's six-game scoring streak
Thu 10 October 2024, 09:30|Tottenham Hotspur
Brennan Johnson's purple patch in front of goal has seen him become the first Spurs player in almost six years to score in six consecutive matches.
The forward continued his prolific form when he confidently swept home the opener at Brighton on Sunday and his sixth goal in as many games has already surpassed his tally of five from his maiden season at the Club last term.
Our number 22's run spans three competitions with successive goals in the Carabao Cup, Premier League and Europa League and has now matched Harry Kane's run of scoring in six straight games when he hit seven goals also across three competitions between 23 December, 2018 and 8 January, 2019.
Here we take you through how both players hit six in six for the Club...
Harry Kane
Game One
Everton 2-6 Spurs | Premier League | 23 December, 2018
Trailing 1-0 at Goodison Park, we turned the game on its head in the first half with 'H' scoring our third just before the break as he reacted quickest to steer home after Kieran Trippier's free kick had cannoned back off the upright.
After Heung-Min Son's brace and goals from Dele and Christian Eriksen had us 5-2 up, our former striker doubled his tally when he guided in Sonny's low cross to round off the scoreline in the 74th minute.
Game Two
Spurs 5-0 Bournemouth | Premier League | 26 December, 2018
This Boxing Day clash at Wembley served up a goal fest as our former number 10 bagged the fourth after the interval, latching onto a sumptuous through ball from Eriksen and finishing first time past Cherries goalkeeper Asmir Begovic.
Game Three
Spurs 1-3 Wolves | Premier League | 29 December, 2018
Perhaps the pick of the bunch. Never one to let up a shooting opportunity, 'H' chopped back inside to evade his marker on the right and let fly off his left foot from 30 yards out to see the ball sail into the far corner. That put us 1-0 up on 22 minutes but we'd go on to concede three in the final quarter of the match as plucky promoted side Wolves ended our five-game winning run in the league.
Game Four
Cardiff 0-3 Spurs | Premier League | 1 January, 2019
A fortuitous opener from Harry but one any striker will gladly take! Up against another newly-promoted side in the Welsh capital, we got straight back to winning ways helped by a slice of luck in the third minute as Sean Morrison's clearance hit the striker and rolled into the corner of the net.
Game Five
Tranmere 0-7 Spurs | FA Cup | 4 January, 2019
Starting on the bench for our away trip to then English Football League returnees Tranmere Rovers in the FA Cup third round, it was only 1-0 at half-time against our League Two opponents before the goals started to flow as 'H' replaced hat-trick hero Fernando Llorente on 75 minutes and took only seven minutes to score our seventh with a deft finish.
Game Six
Spurs 1-0 Chelsea | Carabao Cup | 8 January, 2019
Our temporary home of Wembley played host to a London derby Carabao Cup semi-final as our captain on the night slotted the only goal of a tense first leg from the penalty spot after he was fouled by Kepa Arrizabalaga. Unfortunately, Harry would miss the away leg after sustaining an ankle injury against Manchester United in the match that ended his impressive scoring run.
Brennan Johnson
Game One
Coventry 1-2 Spurs | Carabao Cup | September, 2024
Brennan Johnson began his current scoring run by bagging his first goal of the season - and first in seven months - in dramatic style away at Coventry City in the third round of the Carabao Cup. Having trailed to the Championship side until the 88th minute at the Coventry Building Society Arena, Djed Spence brought us level with his first goal for the Club before Brennan came off the bench to clip home from the angle in the final minute to send us through to the next round.
Game Two
Spurs 3-1 Brentford | Premier League | September, 2024
Again a game in which we trailed, Brennan, this time starting turned the game on its head after Dominic Solanke's leveller as the forward rolled him into an almost identical spot as his winner three days earlier at Coventry for the winger to apply an almost identical finish.
Game Three
Spurs 3-0 Qarabag | Europa League | September, 2024
For the first time in this list, in our victory over Qarabag, it was Brennan who put us ahead in this game but once again the forward produced a finish which is beginning to become something of a trademark for our number 22 - a sweeping finish from the right, across the goalkeeper and into the far left-hand corner of the net.
Game Four
Manchester United 0-3 Spurs | Premier League | September, 2024
Our Welsh forward then went on to open the scoring at Old Trafford as we cruised to a 3-0 win over Manchester United. This goal perhaps had more to do with Micky van de Ven's incredible run and assist, but Brennan had to be in the right place at the right time to apply the finish, and he certainly did that.
Game Five
Ferencvaros 1-2 Spurs | Europa League | October, 2024
Brennan's incredible run continued as we embarked on our first European away day in over two years as we travelled to Budapest to take on Ferencvaros. Once more he made an impact off the bench as in a tense affair in the Hungarian capital, he doubled our lead late on with a left-footed finish from the edge of the area.
Game Six
Brighton 3-2 Spurs | Premier League | October, 2024
Our number 22's latest effort came in our most recent outing as we travelled to take on Brighton on the south coast. Ultimately, it wasn't our day at the Amex as the Seagulls produced the second-half turnaround, but our Welsh forward continued his run of producing in front of goal with another fine finish to break the deadlock.
