Ange’s latest on Micky van de Ven: “He felt something..."

Ange Postecoglou reported that Micky van de Ven ‘felt something in his hamstring’ as the defender was forced off early in our Carabao Cup victory against Manchester City on Wednesday evening.

The Dutch international slid in to halt City winger Savinho’s progress in the first half but immediately felt the back of his right leg. After treatment, he was forced off with only 14 minutes on the clock, replaced by Destiny Udogie.

We were 1-0 up by then following Timo Werner’s fine strike and it was soon 2-0 as Pape Matar Sarr curled home from the edge of the box after 25 minutes. City hit back through Matheus Nunes seconds before half-time and it stayed that way despite an end-to-end second half, where we certainly had the better of the chances on offer. Victory took us through to the quarter-finals, where we’ll meet Manchester United at home.

Asked about Micky afterwards at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Ange told us: “He felt something in his hamstring, so we’ll wait and see the outcome of it. Hopefully, it’s not too serious. He obviously felt something though, which is disappointing for him, he was gutted because he was looking forward to making a big contribution tonight.

“It’s part of the process for us, heavy game schedule and we’ll have some attrition along the way. Destiny stepped in, played another game, he’s played a lot of football for us and he was outstanding when he came on.”
