Dejan Kulusevski told us ‘this is just the beginning’ after another impressive display against West Ham on Saturday and he certainly has the backing of Ange Postecoglou, who feels there is more to come from the Swedish playmaker.
Deki has excelled in a new, more central role this season, scoring twice and playing a key role both in his invention in the forward areas - for example, the back heel for Heung-Min Son that led to our third goal against West Ham - to his sheer running power.
His influence could be seen to maximum effect in our recent win at Old Trafford, where he created nine chances – level with Christian Eriksen as the most created for us in a Premier League match since records began in 2002/03.
He also scored an important equaliser after we fell behind early against the Hammers, paving the way for our comeback and a whirlwind eight-minute spell in the second half, where we scored three goals to surge away 4-1 and Sonny struck the inside of the post.
Ange said: “Deki’s been great all year. He obviously feels more comfortable in that area, he’s much more involved in the game, which I think is key with Deki. He wants to be involved and playing on the wing, sometimes he could get a bit frustrated in himself that he wasn’t involved.
“Look, he’s got a great running capacity, the ability to turn out of tight spaces, which you need in midfield, and he has the quality in the front third, I think we can get more goals out of him, more assists. All season, he’s been great. I think he’s maturing, as well. He’s been captain of his country, which gives him even more self-belief. I think there’s more to come.”
