Under-18s return to action at West Ham

Fri 18 October 2024, 14:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Our Under-18s are back in action this weekend after the international break, making the short trip to Romford to take on West Ham United on Saturday at 11am (BST).

Stuart Lewis' side edged a narrow 1-0 win over Reading last time out in the league, which was followed up by a dramatic 4-3 victory against Manchester United in the Premier League Cup just before the break.

Last season the spoils were shared between the sides, with the Hammers taking victory at Hotspur Way in December 2023, before we came from behind to win the reverse fixture on the final day of the 2023/24 season, with 11 goals between the two matches.

Coverage

Unfortunately this game is not available via SPURSPLAY but all the action will be covered via the Spurs App & socials, with a full match report to follow after the final whistle.

The Opposition

A tough start to the season has seen the Hammers pick up just three points from their opening five league games so far this season, leaving them 11th in the table.

The side are under new management as Lauris Coggin took over the reigns from Kevin Keen during a restructure over the summer, however Coggin is still looking for his first win as their three points have all come from draws so far.

The season started with a dramatic 3-2 defeat at home to Arsenal, with the game level at 1-1 at half-time the Gunners raced into a two-goal lead midway through the second half, only for Riley Hargan to pull one back five minutes from time to set up a grandstand finish, but the Irons fell short before the full-time whistle.

A late point was rescued at Brighton next time out, with defender Airidas Golambeckis levelling the game 86 minutes in, exactly an hour after they'd gone behind.

That was followed by the side's only win in all competitions so far this season, a 2-0 home win over Nottingham Forest in the Premier League Cup, Golambeckis again on the scoresheet, this time with the opener, which was joined by Chinaza Nwosu's second half strike to take the points.

Another point followed again on the road, this time at Leicester, as Elisha Sowunmi put Coggin's side into the lead midway through the second half only for the Foxes' Josh King to level the game before they went down to 10-men late on.

United took the lead again next time out at West Brom but a four-goal thriller saw them have to come from behind to salvage a point for the second time this season.

And in tandem with their first game of the season there was a dramatic 3-2 defeat at home to Chelsea last time out, with Josh Ajala firing them ahead just 10 minutes in. However the Blues rallied, equalising 10 minutes later and going ahead just three minutes after half time.

Mehmet Alim fired the Hammers level in the 71st minute but there was a late sucker punch coming, as with just seven minutes to go Sol Gordon was fouled inside the box, and Ollie Harrison stepped up to fire the penalty home condemning the Irons to their second defeat of the season.

One To Watch - Elisha Sowunmi

The hosts have threats all over the pitch, with seven different scorers in all competitions already this season.

Sowunmi is joint top-scorer with defender Golambeckis on two, converting a penalty against Arsenal and firing home a left-foot finish to open the scoring against Leicester City.

Last season he bagged a brace on Hotspur Way, striking twice in the second half as the Irons came from behind to take the points.

In that campaign he contributed three goals and five assists in his first season stepping up from schoolboy football, which saw his side finish runners up to Chelsea in the Southern Division.

Another threat from midfield is Preston Fearon, who's already grabbed two assists in four appearances, already matching his contribution tally from last season.
