Ange hails youngsters after ‘brilliant’ Ferencvaros outing

Ange Postecoglou was delighted with the way our young players acquitted themselves in Thursday’s Europa League win at Ferencvaros.

On a proud night for the Academy, Will Lankshear made his debut, while Mikey Moore earned his first start and completed the full 90 minutes in Budapest.

There was a youthful look throughout our line-up on the night, with this year’s signings Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall – both 18 – also named in the team.

For Ange, that was very pleasing.

“They were brilliant,” he said when asked about our youngsters after the 2-1 triumph. “I thought Mikey was outstanding for 90 minutes-plus. In European away fixture for a 17-year-old, he handled it awfully well.

“Will worked really hard and was unlucky not to score. He had a couple of moments where he almost got on the end of things but, again, he led the line well and worked hard.

“There were a couple of 18-year-olds out there as well who we shouldn’t discount – Archie was brilliant, he played two different positions for us and Lucas worked hard.

“It’s great for us that we’ve got four teenagers in an away European tie, we won and I’m sure that will make them feel good about themselves.”
