Matter of stats | Spurs vs Ipswich - the numbers behind our first meeting in over 22 years

Sun 10 November 2024, 09:45|Tottenham Hotspur

We put an impressive recent record against promoted teams on the line again when we face Ipswich Town in the Premier League at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday (2pm UK).

This will be the first time we've faced the Suffolk side in a competitive match since January, 2002. However, we have faced Town in friendlies more recently - a behind-closed-doors match at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium during the COVID pandemic, a 3-0 win on 22 August, 2020.

We've won 32 of our last 36 home matches against promoted sides (D2 L2) in the competition, and haven't failed to score in 42 such games since a 1-0 loss against Wolves in December, 2009. Last season, we beat Luton (2-1), Forest (3-1) and Burnley (2-1).

We've actually won 16 of our last 19 Premier League matches against newly-promoted teams (D2 L1) - home and away - with our only loss during this period at home to Bournemouth in April 2023.

Match stats

- We may have an excellent record against promoted sides, but we've won just three of 10 Premier League matches against Ipswich (D3 L4)
- None of our last 26 Premier League matches has finished in a draw (W18 L8). The last team to have a longer such run in the top-flight were Liverpool (28, between April, 1963 and August, 1964)
- We've conceded the first goal in each of their last four Premier League home games, but have come back to win the last three. No team has ever conceded first but gone on to win four consecutive home games in the competition before
- Dominic Solanke has applied more pressures in the final third than any other player in the Premier League this season (212)
- Pedro Porro has had more shots in the Premier League than any other defender this season (19) while Ipswich's Leif Davis has created more chances than any other defender in the PL this season (25)
- Ipswich have lost their last five Premier League away games against London sides, conceding at least two goals each time
- Ipswich remain without a win in their 10 Premier League matches so far this season (D5 L5) - their longest run without a win from the start of a top-flight season
- Ipswich have lost their last two away games 4-1 at West Ham and 4-3 at Brentford, last conceding 4+ goals in three consecutive away league games in March, 1964
