Local families enjoy half-term fun day in support of community food projects

Local families enjoyed a half-term day packed full of sport, funfair games, bubbles and more thanks to Tottenham Hotspur Foundation.

The event at Bruce Castle Park, nearby the Stadium, was organised as part of the Premier League Fans Fund, strengthening connections between the Club, fans and local communities.

It followed on from a six-a-side tournament involving Spurs supporters and community groups in August, with money being raised for Haringey Community Food Network (HCFN) and the Antwerp Arms Association (AAA).

The HCFN supports 50-plus food banks, community kitchens and other food projects, whilst the Antwerp Arms is based opposite Bruce Castle Park and provides a safe space for those in need to enjoy a hot meal every Tuesday.

Joanna Yeung from the Foundation, who led organisation of the fun day, said: “Hundreds of families descended on Bruce Castle Park and it made for a really special atmosphere.

“The Club, the Foundation and fans have a proud track record of supporting community food projects, so we’re delighted to be continuing this through the Premier League Fans Fund.”

Data released last year showed a third of Haringey residents experienced food insecurity and were unable to consistently provide their household with healthy food.

Main causes of early death in Haringey are cancer (37 per cent) and cardiovascular disease (24 per cent), and food poverty is among factors that can be linked to these.

The Foundation will be hosting further football tournaments involving supporter groups and members of the local community later this season, with the next to take place on Saturday, 7 December.
