Loan Watch | Four goalscorers, two clean sheets and a penalty save

Tue 26 November 2024, 18:00|Tottenham Hotspur

A good weekend for our teams was backed up further by a good weekend for most of our loan players.

Bryan Gil, Dane Scarlett and Alfie Devine were all on target for their sides, whilst Manor Solomon bagged a brace for Leeds United in a dramatic 4-3 over Swansea City on Sunday.

There were also clean sheets for Josh Keeley and Elliot Krasniqi, whilst Carey Bloedorn saved a penalty for the second time this season with Aveley.

You can find a round-up in full below.

Bryan Gil & Alejo Veliz

Bryan opened the scoring and assisted twice as two of our loan players met when Girona hosted Espanyol in La Liga.

It took just four minutes for Míchel Sánchez's side to break the deadlock, as a beautiful cross-field ball from Bojan Miovski picked Bryan out on the left wing, he cut into the box and fired it across the keeper into the bottom right corner for his third goal of the season.

The roles were reversed for the second and third goals as Bryan grabbed his first assist of the game 12 minutes later, cutting back a low cross from the by-line to pick out Mivoski who doubled the advantage from close range.

The third was by far the best goal though, a neat team move was capped off by Bryan and Miguel Gutiérrez's one-two which set the former away into the penalty area, a cheeky dinked cross was weighted perfectly to Miovski who turned home for his brace.

The Blanquivermells were 4-0 up by half time and cruised to victory, Bryan completing 72 minutes before being substituted whilst Alejo also started for the visitors, coming off after 64 minutes.

Manor Solomon

Manor bagged his first goals for Leeds United with a brace in a thrilling win away at Swansea on Sunday as his side went top of the Championship.

The hosts opened the scoring eight minutes in through Harry Darling, but Manor soon levelled proceedings when his side won possession in the Swansea half and set Dan James away down the left, he squared it to the back post and Manor tucked it home from close range to make it 1-1.

Liam Cullen put the Swans back in front on the stroke of half-time, only for Ben Cabango to turn James' cross into his own net ten minutes after the restart.

Manor put his side ahead for the first time in the 73rd minute as a ball over the top from Pascal Struijk found Sam Byram in acres of space down the left who promptly cut it back to Manor who buried it from six yards out.

City thought they'd earned a share of the spoils when Florian Bianchini slid in at the near post to get on the end of Josh Tymon's cross to sneak home a leveller, only to then give the ball away cheaply in midfield prompting a Leeds counter attack.

Dan James slid the ball through to Willy Gnonto, who'd come on for Manor with 15 minutes to play, and he broke the offside trap and tucked the ball under on the onrushing Lawrence Vigouroux to fire his side top of the table and create pandemonium in the away end.

Alfie Devine

Another loan player who was waiting for his first goal for his club and ended up bagging a brace at the weekend was Alfie Devine.

Alfie scored the first and second as Westerlo cruised to a 4-0 win over KV Kortrijk on Saturday, lifting them to seventh in the Jupiler Pro League table.

After a goalless first-half he broke the deadlock four minutes after the restart, neatly touching down a cross in from the left before firing into the top left corner from 12 yards out with his second touch.

His second saw a shot parried back onto the line of the six-yard box and a sliding clearance bounced straight off Alfie and into the net to double the advantage with 20 minutes to play.

He completed 84 minutes as his side went on to score two more as his side recorded their biggest win so far this season.

Dane Scarlett

Dane bagged his fourth goal in his last seven league appearances for Oxford on Saturday.

Des Buckingham's side lost a thrilling eight-goal encounter 6-2 to Middlesbrough at the Kassam Stadium, despite opening the scoring in the first half through Greg Leigh.

Michael Carrick's side rallied to find themselves in control at the interval thanks to a brace from Emmanuel Latte Lath and a goal from Finn Azaz.

Latte Lath completed his hat-trick four minutes after the restart, but Dane fired the game back into life 20 minutes after coming on, when his low right-footed finish reduced the deficit to two.

However it wasn't to be, as Tommy Conway restored Boro's three-goal lead before Azaz completed his brace seven minutes from time, condemning United to their fourth defeat in their last five.

Josh Keeley

Josh Keeley kept his third clean sheet in his last four league appearances as Leyton Orient earned a 0-0 draw away at Stevenage.

Josh completed the 90 in an attritional battle, making just one save as the hosts created most of the chances but struggled to find the target.

Despite the positive result, Richie Wellens' side drop back into the relegation zone due to Crawley Town's win over Rotherham United, but Orient have two games in hand over the Red Devils and one game over the other sides above them as they find themselves just a point from safety.

Jamie Donley, who is also on loan in E10, didn't make the matchday squad despite featuring in nine of the 14 games since he joined.

George Abbott

Despite managing 26 shots across the game, Notts County failed to score for a second successive match on Saturday.

A change of formation to a 3-4-2-1 saw George complete the 90 and switch from right-back into midfield as his side dominated proceedings with 59% possession and 480 passes, but couldn't break the deadlock.

That took him past 1,000 league minutes for County, keeping five clean sheets in that spell and picking up one assist.

The result dropped Stuart Maynard's side down to fifth in the League Two table, albeit just a point behind the automatic promotion spots with a superior goal difference.

Ashley Phillips

Ash completed the 90 for the fifth time in six games as Stoke were held to a draw by Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road.

Tom Cannon fired the Potters ahead 24 minutes in, when he cut inside and curled a stunning effort beyond Rangers keeper Paul Nardi.

QPR were gifted a chance to bring themselves level when Junior Bocat brought down Paul Smyth inside the box, only for Zan Celar to drag the spot-kick wide of the target. Before City could've doubled their advantage shortly after, only for Nardi to pull off a stunning double save to deny Cannon and Bae Jun-Ho, before tipping another effort onto the post.

Rangers themselves hit the woodwork before Ash's centre-back partner Ben Gibson's scuffed clearance turned the ball into his own net from a corner, with neither side able to win the game in the final 25 minutes.

The point leaves Narcis Pelach's side 12th in the Championship table, five points above the drop and six points from the play-offs.

Carey Bloedorn

Carey was our only player to taste defeat in this list, losing out to Hampton & Richmond on Saturday before a big win on Monday night against St Albans City.

An uneventful first half sprung into life at the weekend when Hampton & Richmond were awarded a penalty, only for Carey to produce a strong save to his left to keep out James Roberts effort and keep his side level going into the break.

However, he couldn't do anything to keep out two second-half screamers from Kristian Campbell and Mike Atkinson which saw the hosts take the points.

However his side stormed from behind three times in a nine-goal thriller last night to pick up their fourth league win of the season.

The Millers took the points thanks to a hat-trick from Razzaq Coleman, a brace from David Kawa and Joshua Anifowose's 50th minute strike

That result lifts Danny Scopes' side up to 21st in the National League South table, just two points from safety

Elliot Krasniqi

Bishop's Stortford earned their seventh league win of the season on Saturday, beating Barwell 1-0 and climbing up to 11th in the Southern League Premier Central table.

Elliot started and completed the 90, keeping his second clean sheet since joining the Blues earlier this month, with the side just three points behind the play-off places.
